Farm Bureau Foundation Selects My American Farm Photo Challenge Award Winner
WASHINGTON, D.C., December 19, 2013 – The American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture has awarded a newly designed My American Farm kiosk to the York County Farm Bureau in Nebraska. A team of educators from the county worked together to encourage students to submit photos depicting why they love My American Farm. Stephanie Miller from Heartland Community School and Dana Hall from McCool Junction Public School collectively submitted more than 150 student entries. The photo challenge ran from Sept. 18 through Dec. 1. Educators, families and farmers were encouraged to participate. One entry was selected at random.
The newly designed kiosk awarded includes iPad® stands where users can play My American Farm games using the My American Farm app. Kiosks are freestanding learning centers that do not need to be connected to the Internet while games are played. They have become a popular feature at fairs, festivals, community centers and office buildings. This is the first kiosk of its kind to be awarded, and the fifth total kiosk awarded by the Foundation this year to support agricultural literacy efforts across the nation.
My American Farm is an educational game platform launched in 2011 to engage Pre-K through fifth grade learners in the discovery of important agricultural issues. Today, the free site offers 19 agriculturally themed games and more than 100 free educator resources, such as lesson plans, activity sheets and comics.
Two My American Farm kiosks were awarded at the 2013 Farm Bureau Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tenn., to the North Dakota and North Carolina Farm Bureaus. Minnesota also received a kiosk at the Young Farmers & Ranchers Leadership Conference in Phoenix, Ariz., shortly thereafter. One additional kiosk was awarded to Ohio Farm Bureau after winning the My American Farm Marketing Challenge in 2013.
State and local Farm Bureaus and partners can also create their own kiosks by downloading the free kiosk program online at http://www.myamericanfarm.org/kiosk_download.php and building a game display with a laptop or personal computer. Several states have taken advantage of this opportunity. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to request sample images and more information.
The My American Farm educational resource is a special project of the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture. The site and resources are made possible through the generous support of our title sponsor, DuPont Pioneer.
