State Fairs Feature My American Farm

WASHINGTON, D.C., August 12, 2014 – My American Farm will reach nearly half a million people this summer and fall through featured events at state fairs in Indiana, South Carolina and Wisconsin. At each venue, the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture worked closely with state fair officials to create interactive learning experiences that will help fair visitors make the farm-to-fork connection.

Visitors to the Indiana State Fair will be able to play My American Farm games at the “Little Hands on the Farm” exhibit which runs through Aug. 17 in Indianapolis. In addition, more than 500 students will engage in hands-on My American Farm activities Aug. 12-15 through special field trips facilitated by “The Barns Global Learning Initiative” at the State Fair. My American Farm will continue to be offered as a special field trip throughout the year. For more information, visit http://www.in.gov/statefair/barn/.

For the third year in a row, the South Carolina State Fair will offer “From Field to Fair,” a comprehensive agricultural literacy outreach initiative that empowers young people to bring completed My American Farm “Passports to Sustainability” to the fair for recognition as Ambassadors of Agriculture. My American Farm game kiosks will also be available at the fair, which runs Oct. 8-19 in Columbia. For more information, visit http://www.scstatefair.org/.

The Wisconsin State Fair featured a My American Farm mobile learning area in the popular Discovery Barnyard with an estimated reach of 150,000 to 200,000 young learners. The fair ran July 31-Aug. 10 in West Allis.

My American Farm is an educational game platform launched in 2011 to engage pre-K through fifth-grade learners in the discovery of relevant agricultural issues. The free site offers 19 agriculturally themed games and more than 100 free educator resources such as lesson plans, activity sheets and comics.

The My American Farm educational resource is a special project of the Farm Bureau Foundation. The site and resources are made possible through the generous support of title sponsor, DuPont Pioneer.
