SteeverThe American Farm Bureau and Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business are working together to help strengthen rural America. The collaboration is meant to build greater economic opportunity for people in rural communities, starting with a program involving the Georgetown Entrepreneurship Initiative.
VilsackWhat I liked about it was that it dovetails with what we’re doing at USDA.
SteeverU.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack commented on the initiative at the American Farm Bureau Annual Convention in San Antonio.
VilsackWe’re trying to educate investment banks and investors of the opportunities to invest in rural opportunities.
SteeverVilsack says the program will create awareness among investment banks of profit opportunities in rural America, which could provide the chance for leveraging scarce federal dollars. Until now, Vilsack says cumbersome regulations stood in the way of investment banks working on these projects.
VilsackWe’ve simplified a lot of the processes, so I think that Farm Bureau sees this as a way of creating new opportunities for young people, new entrepreneur opportunities and surveying how that could be done, where it needs to be done, what Farm Bureau’s role could be and we certainly are supportive of that.
SteeverThe Farm Bureau partnership with Georgetown provides opportunities for rural entrepreneurs to showcase ideas, network and to learn more about entrepreneurship. At the AFBF Annual Convention in San Antonio. I’m Tom Steever.
