FB Supports Helping Gas Stations Install Fuel Tanks

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 7, 2006 – The American Farm Bureau Federation supports providing incentives for gas station owners to install storage tanks for alternative fuels so that alternative fuels will be more available to the public. AFBF is supporting passage of House and Senate bills H.R. 5346 and S. 2614.

The legislation would give incentives for gas station owners to install tanks for fuels such as ethanol, biodiesel, compressed natural gas or hydrogen. “The result of this legislation would be increased consumer access to alternative fuels and more use of such fuels as

E-85 and biodiesel, which are renewable fuels produced from the crops grown by America’s farmers,” said AFBF President Bob Stallman.

“Ethanol and biodiesel are home-grown fuels that reduce our dependence on foreign oil and contribute to our national energy security,” Stallman said. “Fuels made from agricultural crops provide expanding markets for farm products and they pump money into rural economies.”

In a letter to each member of Congress, Stallman asked for support to pass the legislation. In the letter he mentioned more than economics, Stallman reminded the members of Congress that alternative fuels in general are clean-burning and reduce unburned hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and particulate matter to help clear the nation’s air.
