American Agricultural Insurance Co. Names New CEO
WASHINGTON, D.C., June 8, 2009 – The American Agricultural Insurance Company (AAIC) today announced the appointment of Janet S. Katz as the company’s new Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer, effective July 1, 2009.
Ms.Katz is a 20-year veteran of AAIC. She joined the actuarial department of the company in 1989 after graduating from the University of Chicago. During her tenure, Ms. Katz has held numerous positions with the company and was promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer in 2007.
“We are fortunate to have someone with Janet’s experience and talent leading AAIC in these challenging times,” said AAIC Board Chairman Bob Stallman. “We look forward to her building on the company’s strong foundation of leadership in the industry and tradition of service to our customers.”
Ms. Katz is a Fellow in the Casualty Actuarial Society, a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and has earned the CPCU and Associate in Reinsurance designations.
Along with her husband, Paul, and their two sons, Ms. Katz resides in Buffalo Grove, Illinois.
Ms. Katz will succeed Virgil Applequist, who announced his retirement at the company’s annual meeting on May 5. Mr. Applequist served nearly 32 years with AAIC, the past 18 years as General Manager/Executive Vice President/CEO.
AAIC, based in Schaumburg, Illinois, is the largest, independent, private, American-owned, reinsurance company in the United States.
