AFBF Vice President Scott VanderWal presents Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) with the Golden Plow award.

“We are privileged to have with us a very deserving leader to receive this award,” said VanderWal. “We greatly appreciate his superior commitment to and leadership on behalf of U.S. agriculture and in support of Farm Bureau grassroots policy.”

The Wyoming Farm Bureau endorsed Barrasso for the award because of his commitment in Congress to issues important to farmers and ranchers. Wyoming Farm Bureau appreciates that the senator’s priorities align with those of their members.

Barrasso currently serves as chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. He also provides leadership on the Energy and Natural Resources, and Indian Affairs committees.

His work in the Senate contributed greatly to the recent overturn of the flawed Waters of the U.S. rule. He also fought to cut red tape in land management decisions and for preserving the water rights of farmers and ranchers, in addition to working to improve the H-2A agriculture guest worker program.

AFBF’s Golden Plow award recognizes members of Congress who exemplify agricultural leadership and support of Farm Bureau policies. Recipients are chosen for having a philosophy or record that demonstrates a commitment to sound agricultural policies supported by Farm Bureau, the private enterprise system, fiscal conservatism and reduced federal regulation of businesses and individuals.
