POSITION OBJECTIVE: Lead and direct the routine functions of the human resources team.

 

REPORTS TO:                     Executive Director, Human Resources

 

LOCATION:                          Washington, DC

 

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Partner with the Executive Director, Human Resources to develop and execute the organization’s Human Resources initiatives.
  • Oversee the operations workflow of the Human Resources function and establish processes and procedures to ensure effective and efficient operations throughout the year.
  • Provide direction and support to Human Resources Generalists.
  • Manage the administration of employee benefits, including analyzing benefits options and plan design, serving as an advisor to the Benefits Administration Committee, leading the benefits renewal process, ensuring plan documents and other education materials are current, and leading the development of employee communications.
  • Coordinate support for benefits plan audits, periodically review control procedures, implement control procedures and improve control procedures as needed.
  • Manage the preparation of government reports and filings related to employment and benefits and coordinate with relevant advisors, record keepers, actuaries and auditors.
  • Maintain all Human Resources policies and procedures, including the employee handbook, and proactively collaborate in developing new policies as needed.
  • Collaborate in the management of compensation structure and analyze trends in compensation through surveys and other relevant market data.
  • Partner with Human Resources Generalists and managers in talent management strategies, including providing guidance and support in position development, recruiting, candidate selection, retention and succession planning.
  • Assist in counseling supervisors on performance management, including communication and problem solving regarding internal conflict.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation and ensure organization's compliance.
  • Oversee the maintenance of employment records and ensure compliance with regulations and best practices.

 

RELATIONSHIPS:

Communicates regularly with employees at all levels of the organization. Supervises human resources professionals. Manages relationships with multiple vendors that support the human resources function and benefits plans.

 

EDUCATION OR TRAINING REQUIRED:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in Human Resources or related field

 

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • 6-8 years of progressively responsible experience in Human Resources, including 2 years of management experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent communication skills, including grammar and proofreading
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate when appropriate
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Highest degree of personal integrity including the ability to manage sensitive or confidential information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/SKILLS:

  • Industry certification (such as PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP)
  • Experience with ADP or other related databases
  • Experience with trade associations

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Travel as needed.
