Human Resources Generalist
DEPARTMENT: Office of General Counsel
POSITION OBJECTIVE: Perform day-to-day administration of Human Resources operations and assist the Director, Human Resources with other projects and responsibilities.
REPORTS TO: Director, Human Resources
LOCATION: Washington, DC; eligible for work telework flexibility 2 days/week
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Benefits/Compliance
- Develop and implement procedures and processes to facilitate employee enrollments and changes to the welfare and retirement benefit plans, integrating systems and technology workflows where appropriate.
- Coordinate with vendors to update systems and comply with changing employment and benefits laws (e.g. ACA, FMLA, paid leave, EEO etc.).
- Assist employees in understanding employment policies and benefits programs. Respond to active and terminated employees’ questions regarding benefits and various HR related issues.
- Create and coordinate distribution of annual benefits statements.
- Maintain annual pension census information.
- Prepare and process documentation concerning distributions from the retirement programs, including preparing the appropriate paperwork and draft pension distribution calculations, reviewing completed forms for accuracy and acquiring the necessary signatures.
- Assist with various benefits and compensation projects.
- Coordinate the scheduling and preparation of materials for Benefits Administration Committee meetings.
- Identify, review, and select employee training programs, including prevention of harassment, and recommend new training programs as needed.
- Prepare government reports on employment and benefits.
- Maintain and update various human resources databases and materials, including HRIS System, vendor sites, compliance training platforms and performance review platform, intranet and other resources.
HRIS
- Create and maintain employment records in paper and electronic files.
- planning comprehensive interview schedules as needed.
- Manage and maintain checklists and other documentation of HR processes/procedures and workflows, suggesting improvements as needed.
Other
- Collaborate and participate in employee on-boarding and off-boarding.
- Coordinate the distribution of various communications and legally required notifications to employees.
- Process invoices, coordinate the billing/payment process and assist with other budget matters.
- Collaborate in reviewing résumés for open positions, identifying top candidates based on qualifications and
- Assist with other HR projects as needed.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Works regularly with all AFBF employees. Communicates with brokers and vendors.
EDUCATION OR TRAINING REQUIRED:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in Human Resources or related field
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- 3-5 years’ experience in Human Resources or related field
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong communication skills, including grammar and proofreading
- Ability to maintain confidential information
- Strong problem-solving skills
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/SKILLS:
- Human Resources professional certification (i.e. PHR or SHRM-CP)
- ADP system experience
