In Memoriam: Christy Lilja

Christy Lilja, long-time American Farm Bureau Federation staffer, passed away on Aug. 3, after a battle with cancer. She joined the AFBF accounting staff in Park Ridge, Illinois, in 1985. She relocated to Washington, D.C., when AFBF moved its headquarters there in 2003, serving as executive director of accounting and administration for a decade. With AFBF’s restructuring in early 2018, she accepted the role of executive director of the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture.

Ms. Lilja will be deeply missed as a warm and thoughtful friend and a devoted member of the Farm Bureau family.

To help farmers and ranchers overcome barriers to participating in voluntary carbon markets, the bipartisan Growing Climate Solutions Act, introduced today, would establish a USDA certification program for the private parties that farmers work with to generate and sell their carbon credits.
