Giving Back Through Ag Education
Each year, Giving Tuesday reminds us how powerful generosity can be. It’s a day to come together for causes that strengthen our communities and our future. One of those causes close to my heart is the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture.
The Foundation’s mission is simple but powerful—to build awareness and understanding ofagriculture through education. Every day, their ag education work brings agriculture to life for learners of all ages. One of the most exciting efforts underway is the Foundation’s initiative to bring agriculture into STEM curriculum to reach more students across the country.
Connecting Agriculture and STEM Education
The Food and Agriculture Center for Science Education, a project of the Foundation, is focused on three main goals to bridge the agriculture gap in STEM education. They are working to connect agriculture experts with STEM leaders to build the relationships needed to bring ag science into more classrooms. They are developing stronger learning materials to help students understand the science behind agriculture. And they are building local partnerships so teachers can tie their lessons to real-world agriculture in their own communities.
Agriculture is driven by science—whether it’s robotics in livestock barns, the biology behind soil health, engineering that powers machinery, or the math at the heart of precision farming. When students explore these concepts, they see agriculture in a whole new light. They see that the same STEM skills driving space exploration and medical breakthroughs are also transforming how we grow food and care for the land.
That matters. The next generation of farmers, researchers and engineers are sitting in classrooms right now—and they’re curious. They want to understand how food systems work and how they can make a difference.
STEM Matters for the Future of Ag Education
Giving Tuesday is all about using what we have to make a lasting impact. Your donation to the Foundation helps expand these programs and provide free classroom resources that reach thousands of students every year. It helps train more teachers and build the bridge between the classroom and the farm.
When you give to the Foundation, you’re helping students see that agriculture is more than a career. It’s a world of science, creativity and purpose.

Ag Education Can Bring Farming to Life
Another simple way to support the Foundation is by purchasing a book from Feeding Minds Press. These beautifully illustrated stories make agriculture come alive for young readers and their families. They spark conversations around the dinner table about where our food comes from, and these books help kids see themselves in the story of agriculture.
This year, Feeding Minds Press released a new book just in time for the holiday season: Our Christmas Tree Farm by Lisa L. Amstutz and Christina Forshay. It’s a perfect gift to help young readers learn the farm story behind a favorite holiday tradition.
Turning Generosity Into Growth
This Giving Tuesday, I hope you’ll join me in supporting the Foundation for Agriculture. Whether through a donation, a book purchase or simply spreading the word, your support helps keep agriculture at the heart of learning.
When students discover that agriculture is full of innovation and opportunity, they see a future that includes them. They see that they can be part of something bigger—feeding families, protecting natural resources, and shaping the future of farming.
Visit the Foundation’s website to learn more, donate or explore books from Feeding Minds Press. Together, we can make sure every young person has the chance to learn how their food, fiber and fuel is grown.
