American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall commented today on the passing of agriculture champion Bill Northey.

“Agriculture has lost a champion whose life’s work was dedicated to improving the livelihoods of farmers and ranchers across our great country. Bill Northey was a tireless advocate and insightful leader at the state and national levels. He was also a dear friend whom I’ll miss. I know I’m joined by farmers and ranchers across the country in mourning his passing.

“Bill saw the bigger picture for agriculture and rural America. He was a visionary and giant in the sector. My hope is that we honor his memory by coming together as a nation to recognize that standing up for agriculture is not about any one practice or crop or technology, it’s about securing our nation’s food supply, the livelihoods of farmers and ranchers, and the dinner served on tables across America every night.

“I am grateful to Bill for setting an example of tenacious leadership as a fourth-generation farmer working to ensure USDA programs met the needs of farmers. I dare say every farmer and rancher in America should aspire to have the same impact by telling their own stories, rising to new levels of leadership, and eventually gaining the respect of so many.

“I am joined by farmers and ranchers across the country in offering thoughts and prayers for Bill’s wife, Cindy, and their whole family at this difficult time.”
