The U.S. House of Representatives passed its 2026 Farm Bill. Chad Smith has more on the path taken to get to passage.

Smith: After several months of work and negotiation, the House of Representatives passed the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026, also known as the farm bill, with a bipartisan vote. Brian Glenn, director of government affairs for the American Farm Bureau Federation, said it’s been a long time coming.
Glenn: The House farm bill passed the House of Representatives on a bipartisan vote of 224 members voting yes, and 200 members voting against it. It has been eight years since the last farm bill, so we are truly grateful the house found a bipartisan path forward on this bill.
Smith: Almost 400 amendments were filed for the House bill, with approximately 50 considered on the floor, and many were passed on a bipartisan basis.
Glenn: Several of those amendments were passed and adopted into the bill. They range from ways to support facilities for on-farm fertilizer storage to supporting the specialty crop block grant program and reauthorizing the U.S. Grain Standards Act.
Smith: Glenn said all eyes will now turn attention to the Senate.
Glenn: We need the Senate to follow the House's lead and move this important bipartisan legislation forward. Food security is national security, so we need to get this farm bill across the finish line. We are urging Senate leadership to take this up and move this quickly.
