For years, farmers have been urging Congress to pass a simple solution that would benefit both rural America and families across the country with some relief at the gas pump.

Last week, the House of Representatives took an important step forward by passing bipartisan legislation to allow the nationwide, year-round sale of E15. That’s welcome news for America’s farmers, and it shows what’s possible when lawmakers come together around commonsense solutions for farmers and consumers alike. Now it’s time for the Senate to get E15 across the finish line.

Year-Round E15 Supports the Farm Economy

Farmers are facing one of the toughest economic environments we’ve seen in decades. Production costs are on the rise, markets are shifting, and many farm families are wondering what another season of tight margins will bring. That’s why year-round E15 matters.

Farmers are proud to produce the food, fuel and fiber that American families depend on.

About one-third of the U.S. corn crop already goes toward ethanol production, and authorizing permanent, year-round E15 could increase corn demand by as much as 2.4 billion bushels each year. Expanding access to E15 would create stronger and more reliable demand for corn at a time when farmers desperately need more market opportunities.

This isn’t a new idea. Farm Bureau has been calling for year-round E15 for years because we know it benefits farmers, strengthens rural communities, and supports America’s energy future.

Year-Round E15 Gives Drivers More Affordable Fuel Choices

Year-round E15 is not just important on the farm. It matters to families every time they pull up to the gas pump. Drivers who choose E15 typically save 10 to 30 cents per gallon. At a time when families are counting every penny, that savings can add up quickly.

The reality is that this fuel is already approved for use in most vehicles on the road today. Yet outdated federal regulations from Congress continue to block year-round sales in parts of the country. That does not make sense to farmers, and it certainly does not make sense to consumers.

Farmers are proud to produce the food, fuel and fiber that American families depend on. Expanding access to American-grown fuels is one more way agriculture can help keep our country moving.

Year-Round E15 Strengthens Energy Security

Recent global instability has reminded us how important it is for America to produce its own energy. Homegrown biofuels like E15 help reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources while supporting jobs and investing here at home. Farmers are growing the feedstocks that power renewable fuels, and they are doing it while continuing to advance conservation and sustainability practices on their farms.

E15 is a win for drivers looking for affordable choices. It’s a win for rural communities looking for stronger markets. And it’s a win for a country looking for greater energy security.

The House has done its part, and the President has signaled his support for year-round E15. Now the Senate must act so farmers, fuel retailers and consumers can finally have the certainty they deserve.
